Robotics is the perfect medium for students to express their creativity, implement their thoughts in the practical world and to develop an interest in learning more about the world. Through our robotics program offered in English, which starts in pre-primary, we develop in our students different abilities such as team working, resolution of problems and critical thinking skills in a stimulating learning environment.

Los niños de Preescolar comienzan sus primeras prácticas de robótica con ayuda del Bee-Bots, que son robots diseñados para su uso por niños pequeños. Estos coloridos y pequeños robots son fáciles de operar, y son una herramienta perfecta para la enseñanza de la secuenciación, la estimación, la resolución de problemas, y ¡simplemente divertirse!
Part of the ICT academic program in elementary school, students experiment the world of robotics with the help of tools such as K’nex, Vex IQ, RobotC as well as the Virtual Worlds software. Also 5th and 6th grade students are welcome to participate in the extra curricular robotics program with the opportunity to participate in local, national and international competitions representing our school.
In Jr. High School students carry out more advanced robotics practice with the help of VEX EDR and Robot C. , such programs are an additional offer as part of the extra curricular activities which will allow our students to become part of local, national and international competitions.
Computer Science
The Information and Communication Technology program is based on developing skills for the twenty first century, where students can use ICT tools to aid the development of creativity, critical thinking, problem solving, communication and teamwork.
Likewise, with the implementation of a robotics program in preprimary, the development of these skills is complemented and knowledge is strengthened in specific areas, like science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), taking into account the student’s age and social environment.
Additionally, during the ICT program development, the curricular content of each grade is reinforced.
The goal of Colegio Columbia’s Information and Communication Technology program for primary students is to apply information systems, hardware and software according to their development stage, practicing personal safety awareness when handling the Internet.
Through robotics, we want the students to express their creativity, to implement their thoughts in the practical world and to create solutions linking science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). This way, we reinforce the curricular content that is reviewed in class for each grade.
During the school year, the students solve problems and upload the results online using the JASPERACTIVE platform to prepare for the Certification exam, using Office 2013.
It is worth mentioning that we are the only institution in the area that has the Microsoft Office Specialist Certification in English with curricular value and students are certified in different software according to their grade level:

8th – Microsoft Word
9th – Microsoft Excel
